Most people have an array of insurance policies in preparation for possible occurrences such as motor vehicle accident or burglary, yet so few of us take the time to consider life’s certainty – our death.
Planning your funeral is one of the most caring things you can do for your family. At the time of your death it gives your family precious time to grieve, rather than worry about the details of the funeral.
If you wish, you can include your family in the planning so that their thoughts are discussed together with your funeral preferences. At the time of the funeral your family can be assured in the knowledge that the funeral service is exactly the ceremony you wanted.
If you appreciate the benefits of planning for your retirement, and keeping your Will and other important papers up to date, it makes sense to consider planning for your funeral too. Prepaying your funeral is simply a step in ensuring your affairs are in order and your wishes recorded.
Prepaying your funeral allows you to choose the style of funeral that you want. Your preferences are itemised in a legally binding contract so you can be sure that at the time of your death, the services you choose and pay for today will be carried out exactly as planned.
Prepaying your funeral makes good financial sense. Entering a prepaid funeral contract means that you pay today’s pre paid prices for a funeral service that may not take place for a number of years. It does not matter when the funeral is required, or if costs escalate, you will receive the funeral you planned and there will not be any further payment for items included on the contract.
In addition, the funds you invest in your funeral are not subject to the income and assets tests. This may be advantageous in minimising your taxation and maximising your pension entitlements.
Prepaying your funeral involves meeting with one of our prepaid staff to record your personal details and funeral preferences.
Once your prepaid contract is written, you pay the total cost of the funeral. This money is held independent of Chippers in a funeral fund in your name. Like a life assurance policy, these funds are only payable upon your death and Chippers is legally committed to carry out the funeral as itemised in the contract.
If you do not wish to prepay, you may choose to simply pre-arrange your funeral.
Pre-arranging means that you record all your personal details and funeral preferences with us, and leave the payment to be made at the time of your death.
A copy of your pre-arrangement documentation is held confidentially at Chippers. Should your circumstances change, or you change your mind about any of the recorded information, we can simply update your details, and send you an updated copy.
